Overview

Hungarian CFD started their career in 2008. Within a short period of time this 4-piece Death'n Roll band worked really hard and fast. They have recorded two E.P.'s called "The Werewolf Rising" and "Effigies", and released them as a double E.P. release, "Effigies" in September 2009. For the song "The Werewolf Rising" they made a professional first clip which shows their intense and detailed work on perfection. With Hungarian Powerground Management and Germany-located Infinite Metal Promotion they have fastly received support for their back.

The international promotion campaign was successful and shows that CONAN'S FIRST DATE could be the next big metal act from Hungary. CFD combines very homogenic styles like Death, Thrash, Stoner, even Spacerock, Alternative and Doom influences, with a lot of groove and some rock'n roll vibes. Not to confuse the fan too much they call their sound shortly Death/Thrash'n Roll. Names like ENTOMBED, SOILWORK, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, PANTERA, DOWN appeared the most in the press feedback as influences. Nearly all reviews consider the "Effigies" recordings as a positive evolution of CFD's sound and songwriting.

During this time the band stood not still. Beside their gigs in Poland, Slovenia, Serbia and Hungary they work on new songs. The upcoming release "Jailbreak" brings again CONAN'S FIRST DATE to the next higher level which meets the worldwide standard of metal. CFD is also ready to release their debut album, which shows their eccentric, but solid songwriting and skill to write memorable riffs and melodies.

Overview

CONAN'S FIRST DATE incarnated in the city of Szentendre (Hungary) in late 2008. Tuned down to the ground, touched by various influences, CFD delivers a modern, catchy, dynamic but yet brutal, complex and traditional metal music involving elements from death and thrash as well as from stoner and southern rock.

Such bands would come to mind as MACHINE HEAD, BLS, SOILWORK, ENTOMBED, NEVERMORE or PANTERA. The very first record of the band was self-made and gained success around the Hungarian rock and metal media. One of the most frequented webzine of Hungary, heavymetal.hu labeled CFD as the already one of the biggest surprises of 2009, while other magazines also concordantly agreed that this shouldn't stay inside the walls of the country. Since the summer of 2009 the band is promoted by Powerground management, which supplies local, but widely successful bands such as WATCH MY DYING, SLYTRACT or CADAVERES.

"Effigies" consist of two different materials including the first recording, "The Werewolf Rising". This double EP is an essential record leading from the heavyweight mayhem of Killing Machine to the floating space trip of Million Miles From Home, a cover song from the 90s rave/techno act, DUNE. The self-productive effort of the band became stronger as the band created its first video without any involvement of an outside production studio. The video was shot for the song "The Werewolf Rising" from the identically titled debut EP.

In autumn, 2009, CFD toured over Hungary with the leading hungarian metal act, WATCH MY DYING. Beside their tour in their home country, the band had the chance to perform in Slovenia, Serbia and Austria as well in the late months of 2009. In 2010, the band started to work on their debut album which will be completed by a follow-up video to the previous clip, "The Werewolf Rising", coming in the summer of 2010.

Press Feedback

It's hell of a blast! On traces of bands like Machine Head, Pantera, Fear Factory, Soilwork, Entombed and some crossover stuff, Hungarian CFD creates promising and interesting form that combines modern 2000s and 1990s modern metal tendencies. Just imagine that you have playing still combined from Soilwork and Entombed with vocalist that's between Anselmo, Bell and Flynn, what more you need for description?

The six tracks (and +2 bond tracks between songs) on the Effigies EP are authentic, filthy metal with thrash and death influences and face grinding intensity. A really talented group stands behind the release, who interpret this not so easy music with great devotion.

Partly the Hungarians remind me of Black Label Society - spiced up with a dash Down and Pantera. Actually the four Hungarians combine death metal, thrash metal and Southern Metal elements, but are open to add other sounds as well. Effigy is their latest effort and they obviously improved. It shows that Conan's First Date is a band to keep an eye on!

Μan, you have to be super cool to name your band Conan’s First Date! They, themselves, call their music death’n’roll! My own opinion says these guys mix the Black Label Society style with death metal.

This is for fans of bands like Machine Head, BLS, Soilwork, Entombed, Nevermore or Pantera.

Throughout this album cum EP, the influences of the likes of Crowbar and Corrosion of Conformity abound; you might even imagine Down with more hunger and less self indulgence to get an idea of the band’s sound. Better yet, don’t imagine the sound of ‘Effigies’, buy it. Do I have a criticism of this release? Yep, at barely 25 minutes long it’s far too short! More please.

"Conan's First Date" liefern gut produzierten und soliden Metal inklusive allem, was dazu gehört: Clean Vocals, Soli und fette Bass-Lines.

A mix of Down, Pantera, Floodgate hit me. So, sludge with a serving of stoner and southern rock. Especially the vocals have come quite some way and remind me of a cross between Phil Anselmo and Kyle Thomas. Musically we get served sludgy stonerish southern metal which has thrashy moments as well with a bass which hits home hard. So, turn up the volume and let those glasses resonate. Good songs with a head and tail that never go off into pointless jam territory. All in all a fine first impression by this Hungarian band.
